On June 11, the Vietnam Haiphong Administration for Industry and Commerce and the Trade Promotion Center of the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly organized a seminar in HaiPhong, focusing on developing opportunities and expanding exports to Japan. The seminar attracted more than 60 companies, who are looking for opportunities to enter the potential Japanese market. Experts from Japan confirmed that the Japanese market has huge demand for Vietnamese textiles and handicrafts, clothing and bamboo souvenirs, and these products are now more welcome in the Japanese market. In fact, because the materials of these textiles and handicrafts are natural, and the quality and design of Vietnam are very good, most Japanese buyers will often purchase these imported products. Statistics recently released by the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIT) show that in the first four months of 2008, Vietnam’s exports to Japan reached US$2.7 billion, an increase of 68% over the same period last year. The export of textiles and clothing products ranked second, with exports reaching 67.6 million US dollars in April alone, and 243 million US dollars in the first four months of this year. Vietnam's industry pays more attention to quality and design, which will ensure that Vietnamese products are more popular in the international market. It will also promote Vietnam’s exports to its partner countries and expand foreign exchange earnings, including Japan.
