Vietnam strengthens its textile market offensive against Japan

Since 2007, Japan has revoked import tariffs on textiles exported to Japan from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei. This has an adverse effect on Vietnam’s exports to Japan. Therefore, this year Vietnam has particularly strengthened its offensive on the Japanese textile market. According to recent statistics released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam’s textile exports increased to 9.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2007, and the planned export value in 2008 reached 9.5 billion U.S. dollars. In addition to domestic enterprises in Vietnam, a large number of textile and garment enterprises from Japan and South Korea have invested and set up factories in Vietnam. Vietnam is developing into an important textile and apparel exporting country in Asia. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam proposed that in 2008, Vietnamese textile production and export enterprises should vigorously consolidate their main export markets, the European Union, the United States and Japan, and at the same time open up new markets.
