The chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), Lei Guoen, has recently publicly admitted to the outside world that the textile and clothing industry in Vietnam has developed astonishingly in recent years, but due to its outdated and inefficient equipment, it is still not competitive in the world market. According to statistics, Vietnam has 2,000 textile and garment enterprises, 12,000 looms and 500,000 employees. Since the beginning of 2007, the export value of this industry has increased by 31%, reaching the export target of US$7.5 billion by the end of 2007. Lee Chairman stated that backward management and improper use of energy have led to higher production costs for enterprises. In order to compete with large overseas enterprises, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry must begin to use better management techniques and advanced equipment.
