This year, the export sales target set by the Indian Textile Exporters Association (API) is 10.6 billion U.S. dollars. This target is 10% higher than in 2007. Although the textile industry faces many difficulties, including high production costs and fierce competition in the international market, authorities are still confident in capturing ambitious export goals. Mr Benny Sutrisno, President of the Indonesian Textile Manufacturers Association, said: We expect that in 2008, there will be 500 million US dollars in new investment in the textile industry technology update, and the output will increase from 12 billion tons last year to 13 billion tons. The chairman said that last year, Indonesia's share in the global textile market was only 1.8%, but in order to expand its market share, the government is now formulating more plans for the replacement of textile machinery and equipment. At the same time, Indonesia will also strive to control the inflow of smuggled textiles and clothing products from China and Taiwan.
