Textile exports to Brazil may expand restricted categories

The new chairman of the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association, Disney, expressed that he hopes that the government will use the opportunity of the Chinese delegation's visit in the first half of this year to make negotiations and further expand the types of products that impose restrictions on China's textile imports. Nishi believes that the Chinese market is huge, and Brazilian companies should take advantage of it, prepare to defensive counterattacks, and formulate a strategy to enter the Chinese market. Although it cannot compete with China in the mass product market, Brazil has the ability to compete with other grades of products. In 2006, Brazil and China reached an agreement on textile trade. Brazil imposed restrictions on nearly 70 types of Chinese textiles in 8 categories, involving 60% of Brazil’s total imports from China. The validity period is up to the end of 2008.
