According to data released by the Colombian Ministry of Industry and Trade, between May 2012 and May 2013, Colombia’s exports of footwear, leather and their products to the United States increased by 9.2%. The increase in exports is due to the bilateral trade agreement signed between the two countries in May 2012, which allowed 32 footwear, leather and product companies to export to the United States. Sergio Diz-Granados, Minister of Industry and Trade, stated at the opening of the 28th International Footwear and Leather Exhibition: Bilateral trade agreements will open up more channels for Colombian exporters to sell their products in the United States.
