On January 24, the 2008 Pan-African Leather Fair was held for the first time in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi told the media at the opening ceremony that the Ethiopian government will do its best to build Ethiopia into an African leather market center. The fair will last for 3 days, with more than 170 domestic and foreign companies participating. The fair is expected to increase Ethiopia's share in the international leather market. The export of Ethiopian leather and leather products is increasing every year. In the past six months, exports have increased by 29% over the same period last year. However, Ethiopia's share in the international leather market is less than 1%.
